PICTURE The Committee’s decision to vacate the Plymouth Barbican with all its difficulties in favour of the new Mount Batten Watersports Centre proved highly popular and a very successful Championship resulted.
Once again the
weather was none too kind, but the eight boats were able to get into deep water
on both days, the Commodore Ray Strevens calling it correct on both days. Many eels were captured and released.
The winning fish of 68 lbs 2 oz was caught on the second day by Neil Barnes of Plymouth Command SAC who fished from Richard Matthews’ boat "Crusader".

Anglers Association was close second with a fish of 65 lbs 8 oz and third place
went to Essex competitor Dave Hawkeswood for a fish of 61 lbs 11 oz.
