Roger Beer of Ivybridge, Devon with this fabulous Conger Eel of 109lb 8oz captured from the vessel "ANNE CLARE" skippered by Kevin Tate on Monday 8th September 2008. The fish was weighed at Brixham SAC and is also entered for the Torbay Festival. This is the 7th Heaviest Conger Eel recorded by the BRITISH CONGER CLUB. When Kevin Tate was doing the weigh in slip for Roger he asked him if he was a butcher from Ivybridge and it transpired that 30 years ago when Kevin was 15, Roger gaffed a fish for him at Hopes Nose. Small World is angling! It was the first time Roger had been angling in over 30 years and then he caught a 65lb 6oz Conger Eel.

The capture of this Eel was notable in that it smashed the record which had stood for 15 years. This unique picture of 1992 is the first one to show two 100 lb Conger's being photographed simultaneously and still the heaviest aggregated. The Conger on the left was captured on "ELECTRIC BLUE" and weighed 111 lbs 04 oz and the other Conger Eel was captured on the "MISTRESS" and weighed in at 101 lbs 08 oz.  Both vessels fishing out of the port of PLYMOUTH (Picture & copyright courtesy of Mike Millman Fish Foto Services)
